Fishing for Crab

The BEST BEST fun you can have for free is to go crab fishing on the harbour wall in Looe. No equipment needed ( we have it all) and no skill...well not much and Jenny is a BRILLIANT crab fisher. Every holiday in Looe she ends up showing small children who can't manage to catch a crab how to do it! Of course it does require being able to touch ...this!

All you need is a crab line ...and we have loads

Dangle your line with some nice crab bait on the end of it down the harbour wall at high tide and pull up.......this!

You regularly have to be brave enough to grab your crab when it runs away and makes a dash for freedom.....not easy.....but again Jenny has a method of doing this involving a small piece of towel that helps grab the slippery crab ...and they can run sooooo fast!

After capture put into your bucket ...easy. Loads of tourists walk along the harbour wall to look inside the buckets and little children come and squeel with delight at the sight of all the crabs wriggling about in the water in there.

....and when the bucket is full, or you've had enough then the crabs go back in the water so no crabs get hurt either which is great!. They are not edible crabs so everyone puts them back.
More about crab bait in the next post!
