Photos of Looe Town

None of this is more than 2 minutes away from our cottage.....

Last minute stuff

Nearly time to go!!!!!!!!!!

Few last minute thoughts....Jen is going to sort out some music downloads for CDs for the car. Txt her if you have any suggestions.

DVDs needed for evenings eating popcorn so bring any you have you think you fancy watching...I have a large collection...so check mine out before we go and take any along you want.

Wear something comfortable for the journey -its about 5 hours door to door....but its Saturday in the peak holiday season so I expect even longer. You can always change after we arrive.

If there is something you really want to pack and are not sure if there will be room...bring it and I will do my best to fit it in!

Have you decided who is having which bedroom???

See you Saturday!

Getting really exciting!

Its getting very exciting now.

Car is hired ( I was never going to fit you lot and all the luggage in a Mini)

I've spoken to the owner just to double check a few details for Saturday .....there IS an iron.....there IS a DVD player and the car parking space is right outside the house.

Looe is a bit weird in that cars rarely get into Looe and there are so few parking spaces and the ones that there are are all owned by someone. People just walk through the streets and look at car drivers as if they were not allowed to be there. Its always a little bit creepy driving through Looe getting odd looks.

That will be us....on Saturday afternoon....driving through Looe...THIS SATURDAY!

Seals in Looe - Nelson!

There are many seals in the shores off Looe and if you go out on one of the boat rides, you can get very close to them

and close up ...seals are sooooo cute. There are loads around Looe island

For years in looe there was a very tame seal called Nelson, and he used to swim right up the river and eat fish from people who fed him from boats. he was called Nelson because he only has one eye. In 2003 he never came back and the people of Looe had to accept he had died. In 2007 they put up a statue on the backs of the river, a life size bronze of Nelson and he sits watching the river.

At low tide you can walk right up to the statue and see it close up. Me and laura have been to see Nelson's statue and have pgotos by it but Jenny has never been!

Looe Island

Looe has its own island - called St George's Island. Its about a mile offshore but looks closer. Its got a very long history and featured on a time team show last year.

http:http://www.channel4.com/history/microsites/T/timeteam/2009/looe/index.html

People have habited and visited the island since early iron age and there is a ruined church on the top. legend has it that in early christian times it was a port for experting tin from Cornwall and Jesus visited as a child, playing on the beaches while travelling with Joseph of Arimithea. However this is likely just a tale, a legend.
In the 20th Century the Island was owned by two sisters - Babs and Evelyn Atkins

They built a house and lived there for many years. Evelyn died in 1997 aged 87 and Babs lived there alone until 2004 until she also died, aged 86. the Island was then left to the Cornwall wildlife trust to be a nature reserve forever.

Boats do go out to the island and tourists can vist, although there is not much to see really however the island is surrounded by wildlife including seals
